When I first heard the news about John’s suspension from the House of Dior I was flabbergasted. I was talking to my business partner and saw the breaking news on our local news channel and immediately started freaking out! She was like “what is going on?” I told her and she wasn’t surprised but I was close to distraught! If you read my blog then you know already that the House of Dior is my fav fashion house and Galiano is my fav designer, so naturally I had to know what was going on in the world when my fav designer who never let’s me down season after season is suspended. WTH? What did he do?
Well…..then I found out what he did, and saw the video. I’m not one to give voice to or advocate anything that is hateful so I have not posted the video. If you haven’t heard what happened John was caught well into his drink in a Parisian cafe having words with a couple who sat at a table near him. He went into a anti-Semitic rant against the couple while surreptitiously being taped by another person who was at the restaurant. When Dior was first made aware of the situation they (having a zero tolerance policy) had to suspend the designer. Now this all takes place before the Oscars and before the red carpet arrivals. If your into fashion you know why the Red carpet is so important for designers, now fast forward to Natalie Portman in all her pretty pregnancy glory stepping out onto the red carpet as the new face of Dior Miss Cherie in….Rodarte…I’m sorry I’m confused by this. Yes I know Rodarte assisted on the costume design for Black Swan the movie that Natalie was nominated for but nonetheless I’m thinking most people were expecting her to be in Dior. Add to that the statement she released the next day stating that she wanted nothing to do with John Galiano. Well the day after he was in fact fired. If your confused by Natalie’s statements well she is proudly Jewish and John’s statements weren’t exactly nice.
I am always unhappy when someone with immense talent makes career limiting/ending moves such as this one was. I always think of what could have been, and now I’m thinking of what is going to happen to Dior? Who will they have to step in and replace John without compromising the brilliance that is Dior. Needless to say the next season is going to be one that the world is watching for.
So in an ode to what was I am posting for you the last Haute Couture collection by John Galliano for the house of Christian Dior.

First off let me say that I’m so thankful to everybody who has taken the time to visit my blog since I started it; especially those who have discovered it in the last month. Because of you traffic to my blog has doubled! I appreciate all of you! So, THANKS A BUNCH!
Okay, so I’m in the middle of putting together a great interview with a make-up artist. I’m so excited for you all to read about him, he’s the real deal and super talented. All of you make-up artists stay tuned and pay attention, your not going to want to miss this one.
Now for Alexxuss Loves! My first Alexxuss Loves post was on my fav Fall/Wnter 2010 collection, naturally I would have to do a post on my fav Spring/Summer 2011 collection and I thought I had chosen one – Denis Gagnon. Now, admittedly I’m not gaga for the entire collection but I love enough of it to talk about it. I was certain Denis had won and then I saw Roberto Cavalli and I was like “great, now what!” Roberto’s collection was SEXY with a capital “S”.
I was caught off guard by it because I hadn’t expected to see it. I left my T.V. on while I was getting ready to leave for the office; I had just been watching In Fashion and stepped out of the room and wasn’t aware that Raw had started. I walked into my room just moments after the show had started and one glance at the T.V had me transfixed. I started talking to the T.V. I asked it, “Who’s collection is this?!?” Thank God for in-program credits. Roberto’s name and season came up. I was sold!
I loved that whole collection it was gorgeous and it had something in common with Denis’ collection – fringe! Both collections were completely covered in it. On top of which, both designers did it extremely well. Denis staying to cocktail lenghts and Roberto taking us to the evening. Denis doing wearable sepearates and Roberto complete outfits. I’m not saying that wearing a complete fringed outfit wouldn’t be a daring choice; however, if you wore one of these outfits, for the right occasion you could look rather fantastic!
It’s officially day three of fashion week but only day two for me, and I am here poised at my laptop banging out a post before I have to get dressed and head to the venue to do it all again. This is my first Fashion Week that I’m covering for my blog so obviously I am extremely excited. I want to see it all and talk to people and revel in the irreverence that is fashion in this city. It seems that everyone has the same ideas with respect to what you can find or expect from Canadian designers and what they have to offer. Which; is that they are all extremely talented forward thinking individuals who have the potential if not the desire to be on the international stage.
Okay so let’s get started…
Shows are taking place at Heritage Court on the CNE grounds in downtown Toronto, and they managed to make a large hall look like it was the appropriate setting for this city’s most fabulous to be hob nobbing with each other. Walking into the venue you find the presentations, these are for those designers who aren’t doing a runway show but still want to get exposure for their work. Check out the pics!

After the presentations there was a beauty section where you could get your hair and make-up done. There were sketch artists in the DHL booth; you could get your picture taken on a LG Toronto Fashion Week backdrop, and do some shopping in the Attittude by Sears booth. Then finally top it all off at one of the bars before you headed in to see the shows. Oh yeah how could I forget the life-size Ken dolls….can we say drool!
I saw Pink Tartan, Jessica Jensen + Alexander Berardi, and Line Knitwear. All of the shows were great, and considering that I had never heard of Jessica Jensen and or Alexander Berardi before yesterday; I was very pleasantly surprised with the looks that came down the runway! The Pink Tartan show was hands down my favourite which is what I expected, it was full of colour, completely wearable and the shoes were to die for!
